Psychedelic Farmer

Story

Once upon a time, there existed an indie farmer whose business was ruined by the corporate invention of cheap-produced genetically-engineered veggies and bionic fruits. He could not compete and his cash flow was running dangerously low.

Luckily, one day, an insane yet magical bum approached him and offered him some special seeds to grow upon his farmland. And why were they special? Because they grew a rare strain of hippie-engineered psychedelic fruit. Delicious, sweet, and psychedelic, these fruits became the savior of his little indie farm.

Gameplay

Imagine if Harvest Moon and DrugWars copulated and had a baby in the form of a video game.

Goal

The goal of the game is to make like Scarface as acquire as much $$$ as possible. You can also cruise over to your competitors’ farmland to tear shit up and attempt to conquer their lands. It’s called psychedelic manifest destiny.

Development

The game and scene editor was coded in C++/SDL using Dev-C++. This is my first game that I’ve coded using C++ and this is my second game ever created, after Planet Umi. I hope to eventually port this game to Mac OSX and also Linux, for previous attempts have failed epically. If you have experience porting Windows games to Mac OSX or Linux, please let me know.

Graphics

Mostof the buildings were made by my friend Lee Choi. You can check out his blog/portfolio online.

Awesome terrain tiles were made by the great Zenobia of Netherlands. You can check out some of his other work at deviant art. He has also worked on games such as Immortal Empire.

And of course, I myself had a hand in some of the artwork.

The programs that we used to create our images are Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro 7, Adobe Illustrator and GraphicsGale.

Audio

All the music in the game were not composed by me, but by this awesome dude named Bob over at Bob’s Mighty MIDI. They are royalty free and also free as in beer.

Many of the sound effects were created using DrPetter’s sfx tool.

Release Status

The game is heavily under development and still has some time before being released. I have already finished the scene editor, all I need is to now work on the game engine.
